Before

When a headstone or house sign is repainted, it's much more legible and presentable and the paint will last for years/

After

I also offer a slate headstone repainting service. Over the years the paint can fade on an old slate headstone and it requires a revamp to make the inscription more legible. I use a very hard-wearing oil-based signwriting paint that will last for years. As you can see in the pictures above, the technique of “flood-painting” is used. By painting in and around the inscription, you ensure every part of the inscription is painted, including the delicate serifs. When the paint dries, we use a stone-specific brand of wet and dry sandpaper to wipe the paint off the surface, leaving the crisp edges of the inscription looking like new. I will also clean the headstone after I’ve repainted it. As slate doesn’t absorb water, the dirt is usually only the surface, meaning these headstones often clean up really well. I will also clean slate ledger stones, which are stones that lay flat on the ground.

I work all over the UK, including Scotland so please get in touch if you’d like a no obligation quote.

Please note: I only repaint green slate and black slate headstones. I don’t clean any other stone type and this includes marble, granite, limestone and sandstone.
